Frequently Asked Questions

What is a handcycle?

A handcycle is a tricycle that you pedal with your hands. Handcycling is great for building upper body strength, while enjoying a low-impact sport.

Why is the Intrepid Tourer less expensive than other handcycles?

Intrepid only sells direct.  What most consumers do not know about purchasing a handcycle is that when you buy a handcycle from a distributor, rather than directly from the manufacturer, 40-60% of the purchase price goes directly to the distributor.  This means that consumers can wind up spending double the actual value of the handcycle. Rather than line the pockets of distributors, we pass that savings on to you.

Since we don't use distributors, we can afford to manufacture a high quality product, provide a great customer service experience, and offer the most affordable handcycles on the market.

We believe that the consumer deserves a better bike and a better deal.

How do you steer and peddle at the same time?

The most important feature of a handcycle is the ability to steer and crank at the same time.  It was our goal with this design to create a steering geometry that solved this issue.

We researched and experimented with steering geometry for almost two years.  The design that we came up with is unique because it separates steering forces from the cranking forces.  This means that you can crank as hard as you like and not swerve in a turn.

How is the quality?

Our warranty says it all.  We have the longest and most comprehensive warranty in the business.

Our handcycles are handcrafted from the highest quality materials. We only use premium materials and we guarantee our workmanship to be the best in the business.

How is the handling?

While you should never go faster than you are comfortable with, there is nothing worse than working hard on the uphill and then not being able to enjoy the downhill because of poor handling or instability.  After much engineering analysis and design, we have developed a handcycle that is inherently stable.  In fact, our steering geometry is very similar to that used by motorcycles.

Does it corner well?

Let's be honest, this bike wouldn't be any fun if it didn't perform well while cornering! Our low seating position means that your center of mass is low and our wide wheel base makes cornering a breeze.

Where can I test ride the Intrepid Handcycle?
