Building the best handcycles for the best price is personal for our company.  Intrepid’s founder, Graham Butler, became hooked on handcycling the first time he got on a cycle. But when he looked into buying his own equipment he became shocked at the high price of the products on the market and limited innovation.  As an engineer and product designer, he immediately began thinking of ways to build his own equipment.

Butler developed and tested the design for the cycle that eventually became the Intrepid Tourer over two years.  During this time another goal began to crystallize.  The more research he did into handcycles and handcycling, the more individuals he came across who, like him, wanted to purchase a handcycle but who could not due to the high cost.  Butler , who is disabled, began to see in handcycles a tremendous opportunity: innovation in the industry had become stagnant, and he saw the potential to create better, more innovative products at more affordable prices.  The idea for Intrepid Equipment was born, and Butler founded the company and began selling handcycles in 2006.

Allowing more people to experience the rush of exhilaration that is handcycling, and enabling more people to purchase their own handcycle remains a fundamental part of the mission of our company.
